ORCA has designed The Training and Assessment Training Package (TAA40104) specifically for dive instructors to meet the current competency development and qualification needs of new or existing personnel working in a broad range of functions and activities within the vocational training sector. The package addresses a range of competency areas and will save dive instructors both time and money.

As an active dive instructor you will have developed advanced instructional skills, skills which are the foundation for teaching in virtually any industry.

With a TAA40104 certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification an instructor can teach accredited training courses in most industries they are qualified in. For example a mechanic with TAA40104 can teach mechanics, as Master Class 5 boat drivers instructors can teach Coxswain's. The key is the TAA40104 certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification.

What does this mean for you and the business you work for? Working with ORCA and SSI Australasia to utilize your instructor qualifications you will be able to:

  • Provide on the job training to up-skill existing employees and attract new employees
  • Expand your client base by offering as wider range of courses
  • Attract new clients who want to participate in accredited programs
  • Work with schools and other higher education providers to provide adventure education and other accredited courses
  • Net-work with other SSI aligned facilities to offer full Qualifications in:

HOW CAN YOU COST EFFECTIVELY QUALIFY AS A TRAINER AND ASSESSOR TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ABOVE OPPORTUNITIES?

Certificate IV Trainer and Assessor is offered by several TAFE's and RTO's around Australia and typically costs up to $3500. The course averages around 10 full working days or 18 months part time to complete amounting to a lot of time and money spent outside your business.

The good news is that as a qualified Scuba Diver Instructor most of the required skills to qualify as a Certificate IV Trainer and Assessor have already been achieved. The remainder of the qualification can be completed using the ORCA Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and GAP training which is a combination of 'Home Study' and a 2 day workshop.

BENEFITS OF BECOMING A CERTIFICATE IV TRAINER AND ASSESSOR

  1. Full national accreditation of your training skills
  2. Potential to earn an income teaching any skill for which you
    have formal qualifications
  3. More employable within the dive industry and opportunities outside the dive industry
  4. Potential to get credits for other tertiary training
  5. Government accredited training is in our opinion the future of all training in this country and sooner or later it is likely you will find this qualification necessary.

TESTIMONIALS

You never know what the future holds and I have always sort to get every qualification I can get. Luckily, I enrolled in a Cert IV Trainer and Assessor program which was being offered in conjunction with my SSI Instructor up skilling program. Some months later my employer sold one of their stores. I was made redundant and suddenly found myself seeking a new career. Of all the skills and qualifications that I have obtained in my life, the one that proved the most valuable was my Cert IV Trainer and Assessor. I am now employed as a trainer with a large training organisation and earning more than I ever did in the dive industry. Becoming a Cert IV Trainer and Assessor has changed my life in a very positive way.
