Respond Right

Respond Right courses provide you with the skills required to respond to emergency situations. The courses offer first aid courses from basic to advanced, including CPR and Oxygen. These courses are vital to many industries and careers; they are also important competencies for day-to-day life outside of work as well. Being qualified in Respond Right will give you the skills to manage an accident scene and provide essential first aid. Accidents and illnesses happen every day, some people need only a helping hand while others may suffer serious permanent injuries unless they are given help.

By mastering the Respond Right- Primary care (CPR) and Secondary Care (first aid) courses you can render important care to those in need. The skills learnt in this program can also be taken to the work environment and will give you the confidence to assist an injured or sick colleague, friend, family member or even a total stranger in a time of real need. It is a self-rewarding qualification that is helpful to all people. With the following courses you will not only learn about first aid, but also about the human body, hygiene, allergies, medical conditions and so much more.

ORCA uses flexible training programs including face to face and home study. Completing assignments as a home study component can reduce the time you need to spend in the class room.

ORCA offers Certificate II in Emergency Medical service first response (HLT21107) this course consists of 9 units of competency these being:

1. Communicate and work effectively in health (HLTHIR301A)
2. Work effectively with others (BSBCMN204A)
3. Participate in OHS processes (HLTOHS200A)
4. Comply with infection control policies and procedures in health work (HLTIN301A)
5. Apply first aid (HLTFA301B)
6. Apply advanced first aid (HLTFA402B)
7. Perform CPR (HLTCPR201A)
8. Use basic medical terminology (BSBMED201A)
9. Use advanced medical terminology (BSBMED301A)

However you can complete units of competencies individually if you do not wish to obtain the full certificate. Examples of units of competency commonly used for the workplace are;

1. Basic First Aid (HLTFA201A)
This course is a basic one day first aid course, it can be done as an accredited course or a non-accredited course (SSI Stress and Rescue). During this course you will be taught theory and practical application of: Essential First Aid and Trauma. In accordance with industry standards this course should be reviewed every 3 years.

The competency you will receive from this course is:
HLTFA201A Provide basic emergency life support

2. Apply First Aid (HLTFA301B)
This course will provide skills necessary in aiding victims of burns, poisons, animal bites/stings, road accidents, anaphylaxis, illnesses and medical conditions, as well as learning basic but vital information about the human body and hygiene. In accordance with industry standards this course should be reviewed every 3 years.

3. Advanced First Aid (HLTFA402B)
This two ½ day first aid course (with home study) is a fully accredited first aid course. The competency obtained Provide First Aid. Following on from Basic First Aid this program covers Medical Emergencies, Advanced First Aid & Childhood Illnesses - This two ½ day first aid course is a fully accredited first aid course – Provide Advanced First Aid Response. In accordance with industry standards this course should be reviewed every 3 years.

4. CPR (HLTCPR201A)
This course provides the skills to recognise and then assist a casualty who is unconscious and is not breathing through the effective use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR is a life saving technique which can sustain life until help from paramedics arrive. It is required by Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines that a CPR refresher program is completed every 12 months.

5. Administer Oxygen (SRXEMR003A)
This ½ day first aid course is a fully accredited first aid course under the AQTF. This unit covers competency in advanced techniques for management of the administration of oxygen and ventilation of the lungs in line with the requirements of the Australian Resuscitation Council and state/ territory regulatory bodies. In accordance with industry standards this course should be reviewed every 12 months. This program goes into detail on:

• Oxygen Administration
• Oxygen Equipment
• Oxygen Therapy
• Oxygen Delivery unit

Programs includes:

  • Active First Aid training manual.

  • Respond Right Oxygen Administration Work Book.

  • Instructor and professional fees.

  • Respond Right Wall Certificate.


Program requirements:  Participants must be 15 years or older
